Another Armed Robbery in Los Banos Raises Questions About Late-Night Safety

Police Arrest Convenience Store Robbery Suspect

On July 21, 2025, at approximately 3:11 a.m., the Los Banos Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery at a convenience store in the 300 Block of N. Mercy Springs Road. When Officers arrived, the clerk reported a masked adult male entered the store and robbed the business.

The clerk was not injured during the robbery and the suspect fled the area on foot.

Los Banos Police Detectives were able to identify the suspect as 38-year-old Steven Michael Gifford of Los Banos. Yesterday afternoon, detectives served a search warrant at a residence in the 700 Block of Skylark Ave. and Gifford was taken into custody. During the service of the warrant, detectives also located evidence related to the robbery.

Gifford is currently in custody, pending $100,000.00 bail, charged with armed robbery.
